Article Lead In: Jahirul Miah, who had a pack of condoms, later propositioned a mum with a baby. A cocaine-fuelled paedophile prowled the streets of Birkenhead trying to entice schoolgirls into his car for sex. Jahirul Miah, 41, drove around asking children on the way to school if they wanted to “have some fun” or earn cash. The dad-of-two, who was high on cocaine and had a packet of condoms in his Renault Megane, offered up to £100 for sex.

When the girls rejected his advances, Miah asked a young woman out jogging if she wanted a threesome with his girlfriend. Liverpool Crown Court heard the pervert then said to a mum with a baby: “I’ve got some charlie, do you want to have some fun?” Judge Denis Watson, QC, today said he found Miah’s predatory behaviour “extremely worrying and sinister”. He said: “You were prowling and stalking girls and young women in the Birkenhead area with the purpose of encouraging them to have sex.”

Miah was seen to fill his lime green car with fuel at a petrol station at around 6.30 am on May 16 this year. But an hour later he got out and asked a 14-year-old schoolgirl for directions to a service station. Judge Watson said: “Having used that line to stop her and get her attention, you proposed her, saying ‘do you want to have some fun?’ “She was terrified. She walked away quickly and then made a panicked phone call, which every mother must dread receiving.”

Miah was not deterred and around 50 minutes later approached a 13-year-old girl stood at a bus stop outside a school. He asked about bus times before saying “you’re gorgeous, would you like to make some money?” and offered her cash for sex. Judge Watson said: “She was extremely concerned and frightened.” She and a boy alerted a teacher, who ran outside and took down part of Miah’s registration as he drove away.

Miah approached another girl at around 9 am. He asked about a petrol station and whether she would get in his car, but did not mention sex. At around 9.10 am he asked a jogger whether she wanted “a bit of fun” with his girlfriend, before offering cocaine to the mum. When arrested, his phone revealed a sexual interest in schoolgirls and online searches for “teen babes” and “Lolita”.

He claimed that he had never spoken to the girls, before suggesting in a trial that they had chatted but not about sex. Miah, of Grange Mount, Birkenhead, was found guilty of two counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. He slumped over in the dock, held his head in his hands and started crying when Martine Snowdon, prosecuting, described his victim’s distress.

Paul Treble, defending, said “mercifully nothing physical took place” and that his client was a “family man” of previous good character. He said his arranged marriage “fell apart” two or three years ago and that he moved out of their home and came to Merseyside. Mr Treble said: “He started drinking too much, socialising with the wrong people and trying to find people to spend time with.” He said his family lived in Leicester and his wife was “willing to give him another chance”, despite knowing of his convictions.

Judge Watson said the girls were minutes away from “persistent” Miah carrying out his plan, which included buying condoms that morning. He said Miah was a dangerous offender and sentenced him to four years in jail, with an extended two years on licence. He must serve at least two thirds of the four years behind bars and will only be released if a parole board decides it is safe. The judge handed him an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order and told him to sign on the Sex Offenders Register for lifeJudge Watson also ordered the forfeiture of his car.
