RAPE: and Islam

Muslims in Egypt

Rape Lara Logan Reporter

Lara Logan has spoken out for the first time since her terrifying sexual assault in Egypt, describing how attackers ‘raped her with their hands’.

The 39-year-old CBS foreign correspondent said she was convinced she was going to die when the frenzied mob tore her away from her film crew and bodyguard in Cairo’s Tahrir Square.
A group of at least 200 men beat her, pinched her and tore at her clothes in a 40-minute attack that only ended when a group of women came to her aid.

11 Christian Missionaries Crucified and Beheaded — Charisma News

Raw Islam feature

At several steps on their path to death by beheading and crucifixion last month, 11 indigenous Christian workers near Aleppo, Syria, had the option to leave the area and live. The 12-year-old son of a ministry team leader also could have spared his life by denying Christ.

The indigenous missionaries were not required to stay at their ministry base in a village near Aleppo, Syria; rather, the ministry director who trained them had entreated them to leave. As the Islamic State (ISIS), other rebel groups and Syrian government forces turned Aleppo into a war zone of carnage and destruction, ISIS took over several outlying villages. The Syrian ministry workers in those villages chose to stay in order to provide aid in the name of Christ to survivors.

“I asked them to leave, but I gave them the freedom to choose,” said the ministry director, his voice tremulous as he recalled their horrific deaths. “As their leader, I should have insisted that they leave.”

They stayed because they believed they were called to share Christ with those caught in the crossfire, he said.

“Every time we talked to them,” the director said, “they were always saying, ‘We want to stay here—this is what God has told us to do. This is what we want to do.’ They just wanted to stay and share the gospel.”

Those who chose to stay could have scattered and hid in other areas, as their surviving family members did. On a visit to the surviving relatives in hiding, the ministry director learned of the cruel executions.

The relatives said ISIS militants on Aug. 7 captured the Christian workers in a village whose name is withheld for security reasons. On Aug. 28, the militants asked if they had renounced Islam for Christianity. When the Christians said that they had, the rebels asked if they wanted to return to Islam. The Christians said they would never renounce Christ.

The 41-year-old team leader, his young son and two ministry members in their 20s were questioned at one village site where ISIS militants had summoned a crowd. The team leader presided over nine house churches he had helped to establish. His son was two months away from his 13th birthday.

“All were badly brutalized and then crucified,” the ministry leader said. “They were left on their crosses for two days. No one was allowed to remove them.”

The martyrs died beside signs the ISIS militants had put up identifying them as “infidels.”

Eight other ministry team members, including two women, were taken to another site in the village that day (Aug. 28) and were asked the same questions before a crowd. The women, ages 29 and 33, tried to tell the ISIS militants they were only sharing the peace and love of Christ and asked what they had done wrong to deserve the abuse. The Islamic extremists then publicly raped the women, who continued to pray during the ordeal, leading the ISIS militants to beat them all the more furiously.

As the two women and the six men knelt before they were beheaded, they were all praying.

“Villagers said some were praying in the name of Jesus, others said some were praying the Lord’s prayer, and others said some of them lifted their heads to commend their spirits to Jesus,” the ministry director said. “One of the women looked up and seemed to be almost smiling as she said, ‘Jesus!'”

After they were beheaded, their bodies were hung on crosses, the ministry director said, his voice breaking. He had trained all of the workers for their evangelistic ministry, and he had baptized the team leader and some of the others.

Hundreds of former Muslims in Syrian villages are in danger of being captured and killed by ISIS, which is fighting to establish a caliphate in which apostasy is punishable by death. The underground church in the region has mushroomed since June 2014, when ISIS began terrorizing those who do not swear allegiance to its caliphate, both non-Muslims and Muslims. Consequently, the potential for large-scale executions has grown along with the gains in ISIS-controlled territory.

The ministry assisted by Christian Aid Mission is providing resources and trying to find ways to evacuate these families by other routes.

Many of the ministry’s teams also remain in Syria. Christian Aid Mission assists those who do not or cannot leave with the means to survive.

Even those who leave, however, may encounter ISIS militants and other criminals in refugee camps, said the leader of another ministry that Christian Aid Mission assists. He spoke of a Muslim from northern Syria who, like all men in areas that ISIS takes over, was coerced into joining the caliphate or being killed.

Recruited into ISIS, he fled the country after his brother was killed in the fighting. Disillusioned with ISIS but still adhering to Islam and its teaching that Christians and Jews are unclean “pigs,” he went to Amman, Jordan, as he had learned that relatives there were receiving aid from Christians.

The Muslim, whose name is withheld for security reasons, went to a Christian meeting with the intention of killing the aid workers gathered there. Something kept him from following through on his plan, though, and that night he saw Jesus in a dream, the ministry director said.

“The next day he came back and said, ‘I came to kill you, but last night I saw Jesus, and I want to know what are you teaching—who is this One who held me up from killing you?'” the director said. “He received Christ with tears, and today he’s actually helping in the church, helping out other people. We’re praying for lots of such Sauls to change to Pauls.”

The sorrow of the ministry team leader who lost 11 workers and one of their children last month has been deep, but he takes heart that their faithfulness could help change the hearts of persecutors.

“They kept on praying loudly and sharing Jesus until their last breath,” he said. “They did this in front of the villagers as a testimony for others.”

He asked for prayer for surviving family members and for himself.

“These things have been very hard on me,” he said. “What wrong did those people do to deserve to die? What is happening is more and more people are being saved. The ministry is growing and growing—in the past we used to pray to have one person from a Muslim background come to the Lord. Now there are so many we can barely handle all the work among them.”

Germany: Migrants’ Rape Epidemic

Facts feature (01a)

Translations of this item:

Although the rape took place in June, police kept silent about it for nearly three months, until local media published a story about the crime. According to an editorial comment in the newspaper Westfalen-Blatt, police are refusing to go public about crimes involving refugees and migrants because they do not want to give legitimacy to critics of mass migration.

A 13-year-old Muslim girl was raped by another asylum seeker at a refugee facility in Detmold, a city in west-central Germany. The girl and her mother reportedly fled their homeland to escape a culture of sexual violence.

Approximately 80% of the refugees/migrants at the shelter in Munich are male… the price for sex with female asylum seekers is ten euros. — Bavarian Broadcasting (Bayerischer Rundfunk).

Police in the Bavarian town of Mering, where a 16-year-old-girl was raped on September 11, have issued a warning to parents not to allow their children to go outside unaccompanied. In the Bavarian town of Pocking, administrators of the Wilhelm-Diess-Gymnasium have warned parents not to let their daughter’s wear revealing clothing in order to avoid “misunderstandings.”

“When Muslim teenage boys go to open air swimming pools, they are overwhelmed when they see girls in bikinis. These boys, who come from a culture where for women it is frowned upon to show naked skin, will follow girls and bother them without their realizing it. Naturally, this generates fear.” — Bavarian politician, quoted in Die Welt.

A police raid on the Munich refugee facility found that guards hired to provide security at the site were trafficking drugs and weapons and were turning a blind eye to the prostitution.

Meanwhile, the raping of German women by asylum seekers is becoming commonplace.

A growing number of women and young girls housed in refugee shelters in Germany are being raped, sexually assaulted and even forced into prostitution by male asylum seekers, according to German social work organizations with first-hand knowledge of the situation.

Many of the rapes are occurring in mixed-gender shelters, where, due to a lack of space, German authorities are forcing thousands of male and female migrants to share the same sleeping areas and restroom facilities.

Conditions for women and girls at some shelters are so perilous that females are being described as “wild game” fighting off Muslim male predators. But many victims, fearing reprisals, are keeping silent, social workers say.

At the same time, growing numbers of German women in towns and cities across the country are being raped by asylum seekers from Africa, Asia and the Middle East. Many of the crimes are being downplayed by German authorities and the national media, apparently to avoid fueling anti-immigration sentiments.

On August 18, a coalition of four social work organizations and women’s rights groups sent a two-page letter to the leaders of the political parties in the regional parliament in Hesse, a state in west-central Germany, warning them of the worsening situation for women and children in the refugee shelters.

The letter said:

“The ever-increasing influx of refugees has complicated the situation for women and girls at the receiving center in Giessen (HEAE) and its subsidiaries.

“The practice of providing accommodations in large tents, the lack of gender-separate sanitary facilities, premises that cannot be locked, the lack of safe havens for women and girls — to name just a few spatial factors — increases the vulnerability of women and children within the HEAE. This situation plays into the hands of those men who assign women a subordinate role and treat women traveling alone as ‘wild game’.

“The consequences are numerous rapes and sexual assaults. We are also receiving an increasing number of reports of forced prostitution. It must be stressed: these are not isolated cases.

“Women report that they, as well as children, have been raped or subjected to sexual assault. As a result, many women sleep in their street clothes. Women regularly report that they do not use the toilet at night because of the danger of rape and robbery on the way to the sanitary facilities. Even during daylight, passing through the camp is a frightful situation for many women.

“Many women — in addition to fleeing wars or civil wars — are also on the run for gender-related reasons, including the threat of forced marriage or genital mutilation. These women who face special risks, especially when they are on the run alone or with their children. Even if they are accompanied by male relatives or acquaintances, this does not always ensure protection against violence because it can also lead to specific dependencies and sexual exploitation.

“Most female refugees have experienced a variety of traumatizing experiences in their country of origin and while on the run. They are victims of violence, kidnappings, torture, rape and extortion — sometimes over periods of several years.

“The feeling to have arrived here — in safety — and to be able to move without fear, is a gift for many women…. We therefore ask you…to join our call for the immediate establishment of protected premises (locked apartments or houses) for women and children who are travelling alone….

“These facilities must be equipped so that men do not have access to the premises of the women, with the exception of emergency workers and security personnel. In addition bedrooms, lounges, kitchens and sanitary facilities must be interconnected so that they form a self-contained unit — and thus can only be reached via lockable and monitored access to the house or the apartment.”

After several blogs (here, here and here) drew attention to the letter, the LandesFrauenRat (LFR) Hessen, a women’s lobbying group that originally uploaded the politically incorrect document to its website, abruptly removed it on September 14, without explanation.

The problem of rapes and sexual assaults in German refugee shelters is a nationwide problem.

In Bavaria, women and girls housed at a refugee shelter in Bayernkaserne, a former military base in Munich, are subject to rape and forced prostitution on a daily basis, according to women’s rights groups. Although the facility has separate dorm rooms for women, the doors cannot be locked and men control access to the sanitary facilities.

Approximately 80% of the refugees/migrants at the shelter are male, according to Bavarian Broadcasting (Bayerischer Rundfunk), which reports that the price for sex with female asylum seekers is ten euros. A social worker described the facility this way: “We are the biggest brothel in Munich.”

Police insist they have no proof that the rapes are taking place, although a police raid on the facility found that guards hired to provide security at the site were trafficking drugs and weapons and were turning a blind eye to the prostitution.

August 28:
A 22-year-old Eritrean asylum seeker was sentenced to one year and eight months in prison for attempting to rape a 30-year-old Iraqi-Kurdish woman at a refugee shelter in the Bavarian town of Höchstädt. The reduced sentence was thanks to the efforts of the defense attorney, who persuaded the judge that the defendant’s situation at the shelter was hopeless: “For a year now he sits around and thinks about — about nothingness.”

August 26:
A 34-year-old asylum seeker attempted to rape a 34-year-old woman in the laundry room of a refugee facility in Stralsund, a city near the Baltic Sea.

August 6:
Police revealed that a 13-year-old Muslim girl was raped by another asylum seeker at a refugee facility in Detmold, a city in west-central Germany. The girl and her mother reportedly fled their homeland to escape a culture of sexual violence; as it turns out, the man who raped the girl is from their country.

Police chief Bernd Flake countered that the silence was aimed at protecting the victim. “We will continue with this policy [of not informing the public] whenever crimes are committed in refugee facilities,” he said.

June 12-14:
(Over a weekend ) A 15-year-old girl housed at a refugee shelter in Habenhausen, a district in the northern city of Bremen, was repeatedly raped by two other asylum seekers. The facility has been has been described as a “house of horrors” due to the spiraling violence perpetrated by rival gangs of youth from Africa and Kosovo. A total of 247 asylum seekers are staying at the shelter, which has a capacity for 180 and a cafeteria with seating for 53.

Meanwhile, the raping of German women by asylum seekers is becoming commonplace.

Following are a few select cases just from 2015:

September 11:
a 16-year-old girl was raped by an unidentified “dark-skinned man speaking broken German” close to a refugee shelter in the Bavarian town of Mering. The attack occurred while the girl was walking home from the train station.

August 13:
police arrested two Iraqi asylum seekers, aged 23 and 19, for raping an 18-year-old German woman behind a schoolyard in Hamm, a city in North Rhine-Westphalia.

July 26:
a 14-year-old boy was sexually assaulted inside the bathroom of a regional train in Heilbronn, a city in southwestern Germany. Police are looking for a “dark skinned” man between the ages of 30 and 40 who has an “Arab appearance.”

July 26:
A 21-year-old Tunisian asylum seeker raped a 20-year-old woman in the Dornwaldsiedlung district of Karlsruhe. Police kept the crime secret until August 14, when a local paper went public with the story.

June 9:
Two Somali asylum seekers, aged 20 and 18, were sentenced to seven-and-a-half years in prison for raping a 21-year-old German woman in Bad Kreuznach, a town in Rhineland-Palatinate, on December 13, 2014.

June 5:
A 30-year-old Somali asylum seeker called “Ali S” was sentenced to four years and nine months in prison for attempting to rape a 20-year-old woman in Munich. Ali had previously served a seven-year sentence for rape, and had been out of prison for only five months before he attacked again. In an effort to protect the identity of Ali S, a Munich newspaper referred to him by the more politically correct “Joseph T.”

May 22:
A 30-year-old Moroccan man was sentenced to four years and nine months in prison for attempting to rape a 55-year-old woman in Dresden.

May 20:
A 25-year-old Senegalese asylum seeker was arrested after he attempted to rape a 21-year-old German woman at the Stachus, a large square in central Munich.

April 16:
A 21-year-old asylum seeker from Iraq was sentenced to three years and ten months in prison for raping a 17-year-old girl at festival in the Bavarian town of Straubing in August 2014.

April 7:
A 29-year-old asylum seeker was arrested for the attempted rape of a 14-year-old girl in the town of Alzenau.

March 17:
Two Afghan asylum seekers aged 19 and 20 were sentenced to five years in prison for the “particularly abhorrent” rape of a 21-year-old German woman in Kirchheim, a town near Stuttgart, on August 17, 2014.

February 11:
A 28-year-old asylum seeker from Eritrea was sentenced to four years in prison for raping a 25-year-old German woman in Stralsund, along the Baltic Sea, in October 2014.

February 1:
A 27-year-old asylum seeker from Somalia was arrested after attempting to rape women in the Bavarian town of Reisbach.

January 16:
A 24-year-old Moroccan immigrant raped a 29-year-old woman in Dresden.

Dozens of other cases of rape and attempted rape — cases in which police are specifically looking for foreign perpetrators (German police often refer to them as Südländer, or “southerners”) — remain unresolved.

Following is a partial list just for August 2015:

August 23:
A “dark skinned” man attempted to rape a 35-year-old woman in Dortmund.

August 17:
Three male “southerners” attempted to rape a 42-year-old woman in Ansbach.

August 16:
A male “southerner” raped a woman in Hanau.

August 12:
A male “southerner” attempted to rape a 17-year-old woman in Hannover.

August 12:
A male “southerner” exposed himself to a 31-year-old woman in Kassel. Police say a similar incident occurred in the same area on August 11.

August 10:
Five men of “Turkish origin” attempted to rape a girl in Mönchengladbach.

August 10:
A male “southerner” raped a 15-year-old girl in Rinteln.

August 8:
A male “southerner” attempted to rape a 20-year-old woman in Siegen.

August 3:
A “North African” raped a seven-year-old girl in broad daylight in a park in Chemnitz, a city in eastern Germany.

August 1:
A male “southerner” attempted to rape a 27-year-old woman in downtown Stuttgart.

Meanwhile, parents are being warned to look after their daughters.

Police in the Bavarian town of Mering, where a 16-year-old-girl was raped on September 11, have issued a warning to parents not to allow their children to go outside unaccompanied. They have also advised women not to walk to or from the train station alone because of its proximity to a refugee shelter.

In the Bavarian town of Pocking, administrators of the Wilhelm-Diess-Gymnasium have warned parents not to let their daughters wear revealing clothing in order to avoid “misunderstandings” with the 200 Muslim refugees housed in emergency accommodations in a building next to the school.

The letter said:

The Syrian citizens are mainly Muslim and speak Arabic. The refugees have their own culture. Because our school is directly next to where they are staying, modest clothing should be worn in order to avoid disagreements. Revealing tops or blouses, short shorts or miniskirts could lead to misunderstandings.

A local politician quoted by Die Welt newspaper said:

When Muslim teenage boys go to open air swimming pools, they are overwhelmed when they see girls in bikinis. These boys, who come from a culture where for women it is frowned upon to show naked skin, will follow girls and bother them without their realizing it. Naturally, this generates fear.

The increase in sex crimes in Germany is being fueled by the preponderance of Muslim males among the mix of refugees/migrants entering the country.

ISIS Leader Repeatedly Raped US Hostage Kayla Mueller, Who Refused to Escape to Save Yazidi Girls

Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi banner

Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi repeatedly sexually assaulted American humanitarian worker Kayla Mueller before she died earlier this year in captivity in Syria, according to the victim’s family. She got a chance to escape along with two Yazidi girls but she refused to join them lest her foreign appearance put them in danger, one of the girls has said.”We were told Kayla was tortured, that she was the property of al-Baghdadi,” Kayla’s parents, Carl and Marsha Mueller, told ABC News on Friday, the day she would have turned 27.

Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi personally brought Mueller, who was captured in Sinjar, Iraq, last August, to the home of Abu Sayyaf, a Tunisian in charge of oil and gas revenue for IS, Al-Shadadiya. The top IS leader visited the home often to rape her.

The revelation dispels rumours that Mueller became a willing spouse of the IS leader. Her family had been told about the sexual assaults by the U.S. government in June.

About a year after she was held hostage, Mueller wrote a letter to her family, saying she was “completely unharmed + healthy (put on weight in fact); I have been treated w/ the utmost respect + kindness.”

The Islamic State terror group, also known as ISIS or ISIL, claimed in February that Mueller died in an airstrike carried out by Jordan in Syria.

In May, American troops conducted a ground raid to capture Abu Sayyaf but ended up killing him. His wife, Umm Sayyaf, was later captured.

Meanwhile, a 14-year-old Yazidi girl who was held with Mueller for several months told The Independent that the humanitarian worker was kept as the private property of al-Baghdadi during her captivity.

The girl and her sister managed to escape last October, but Mueller refused to join them saying her foreign appearance could put them in danger.

The Yazidi girl also spoke about the frequent visits of al-Baghdadi. “I saw him often, he came there often,” she was quoted as saying. “And every time he came, he took Kayla away. She would always come back after.”

She added that Mueller would come back distressed and crying after being sexually abused.

IS terrorists believe Islam allows them to rape non-Muslim women and girls.

A 12-year-old girl interviewed by The New York Times at a refugee camp in Qadia, Iraq, said an IS terrorist prayed before and after raping her and sought to explain to her that the Quran encourages such sexual assaults.

“I kept telling him it hurts — please stop,” the girl was quoted as saying. “He told me that according to Islam he is allowed to rape an unbeliever. He said that by raping me, he is drawing closer to God.”

More than 5,000 Yazidis were abducted last year, and at least 3,144 are still being held.

“Every time that he came to rape me, he would pray,” another victim, a 15-year-old girl, was quoted as saying. “He kept telling me this is ibadah (worship). He said that raping me is his prayer to God. I said to him, ‘What you’re doing to me is wrong, and it will not bring you closer to God.’ And he said, ‘No, it’s allowed. It’s halal.'”

IS, an offshoot of al-Qaeda, is seeking to establish a caliphate in the Levant region and beyond, and is fast expanding its control in Syria and Iraq. Christian minorities are among its main civilian targets.

ISIS Forced 17-Y-O Girl to Recite Quran While Being Raped, Burned Her With Boiling Water When She Refused

Humanitarian activist Delal Sindy playing with displaced Iraq children at a refugee camp in northern Iraq.

According to a Kurdish activist who works closely with Iraqis displaced by the Islamic State, ISIS militants allegedly forced a 17-year-old Yazidi girl to recite parts of the Quran while she was being raped. And when she refused, she was punished by having boiling water poured on her.

Twenty-three-year-old Delal Sindy, who is from Sweden, has been working as a humanitarian worker in the Kurdish-protected northern Iraq since October 2014. In a Monday Facebook post that has been shared over 13,000 times, Sindy shared the tragic story of one recently escaped Yazidi refugee girl she met named Suzan, who is now 17, and pregnant after being subjected to ISIS’ brutal sexual slavery.

According to Sindy’s post, Suzan, her 10-year-old sister and mother were originally taken captive by ISIS and transported to a hotel in Mosul called “The Galaxy,” which is essentially a sex slave market filled with half-naked women and girls. The last day Suzan and her sister saw their mother was the day they were sold out of the hotel and shipped to Raqqa, Syria.

Once in Raqqa, Suzan and her sister, along with other girls, were forced to dress up and were inspected to see if they were virgins. Suzan said she was sold cheap because she was not as attractive as the other girls, while her sister was given away as a gift to a senior ISIS member.

Sindy’s post explains that Suzan, along with two other girls, became the property of an ISIS militant named “Al Russiyah.” Each morning the girls would be forced to line up so that Russiyah could decide which girl would be his personal sex toy for the day. The other girls that Russiyah didn’t pick would be subject to even more physical and sexual abuse at the hands of Russiyah’s body guards.

“He then lined us up three naked each morning, felt on us, smelled on us. … Then he chose who he wanted for the day,” Sindy quoted Suzan as saying in a translated version of her Facebook Post. “[The guards] were horrible. They beat me and was always at least two at the same time. In the end, I [would be] lucky to end up with Al Russiyah instead of [the guards] beating us. It was like choosing between death and death.”

“His guards raped me at least five times a day,” Suzan continued. “They forced me to say things from the Quran while they did their [actions], otherwise they whipped me.”

(PHOTO: FACEBOOK/DELAL SINDY)

Delal Sindy shared this photo along with her widely circulated post on 17-year-old Yazidi “Suzan,”

Sindy added that one time when Suzan refused to give into the militants’ demands they burned her with boiling water to teach her to obey their commands.

“Once he burned my thigh with hot boiling water because I refused,” she added. “I dared no more after that.”

Suzan said she fled after she and the rest of Russiyah’s slaves were taken to Sinjar while he fought in battle. Russiya was killed in battle, while his guards were injured.

“That was when we fled,” Suzan explained. “The other girls ran back for they were afraid. … But I continued. It took me three days to get to the mountain, where Kurdish soldiers helped me.”

Although Suzan is now out of the hands of the Islamic State, she still wishes she had been killed because now she realizes that she has lost most of her family and her uncle that she has lived with since escaping ISIS has threatened to kill her because she was impregnated by an ISIS fighter.

“My uncle who I lived with up until a week ago said he would kill me if he found out that ISIS had done anything with me, because of the honor,” Suzan said. “I escaped from there immediately. Now I hide here … pregnant in the third month and do not know what to do. The easiest way out is to die. “

“I wish they had killed me instead,” she asserted. “My dad is dead, I have no idea where my mom and sister are. What do I have to live for? I try to forget everything but even when I close my eyes, I see them in front of me. I want to kill myself.”

Displaced Sunni women fleeing the violence in Ramadi, carry bags as they walk on the outskirts of Baghdad, May 24, 2015. Iraqi forces recaptured territory from advancing Islamic State militants near the recently-fallen city of Ramadi on Sunday, while in Syria the government said the Islamists had killed hundreds of people since capturing the town of Palmyra.

Islamic State militants have allegedly burned a 20-year-old women alive because she refused to perform what a United Nations official deemed was an “extreme sex act.” The same official also disclosed that ISIS is forcing some sex slaves to be prostitutes.

As The Christian Post previously reported, Zainab Bangura, the U.N.’s special representative on sexual crimes in war, recently conducted interviews with displaced ISIS victims in Iraq and Syria, as she toured through five Middle East countries compiling information on ISIS’ sex crimes.

Bangura, who also visited Jordan, Turkey and Lebanon, recently spoke with the Middle East Eye and provided more shocking details of the horrors that women and children face at the hands of ISIS’ systemic sex trafficking operations.

“They commit rape, sexual slavery, forced prostitution and other acts of extreme brutality,” Bangura asserted. “We heard one case of a 20-year-old girl who was burned alive because she refused to perform an extreme sex act. We learned of many other sadistic sexual acts. We struggled to understand the mentality of people who commit such crimes.”

Ilham, a Yazidi woman, folds the curtain of the tent where she lives in a refugee camp near Duhok, February 26, 2015.
Reuters photographer Asmaa Waguih: Ilham was kidnapped by Islamic State in August last year and was transported to Tal Afar along with other girls and women. She was raped several times by one of the militants. When Ilham tried to escape, some people she asked for help handed her back to the militants. She managed to get away a few weeks later. At refugee camps in northern Iraq I met and photographed Yazidi women who had survived being kidnapped by Islamic State.

I needed government approval to visit some of the camps. The camp officials wanted to protect the women and were wary of the fact that I had a camera. It took a while for the women to get used to me. But when they did, they were happy to share their stories, to tell me what had happened to them.

It is very difficult for women living in a quiet, conservative area to admit they have faced sexual violence. In some cases, I heard from camp officials that a woman had been raped, but when I met her she would speak of the brutality of the militants and then mention knowing that some women had even been raped. In general, escapees would try to find a time when the militants were busy working and then seek help. Sometimes people would agree to hide them and then find cars to take them to other areas. At other times they would return the women to Islamic State. Some had managed to escape in groups. Others had family members still being held by the insurgents. It’s a disastrous situation for these families’ and it’s not over yet.

Through the course of Bangura’s investigation, she has gained an understanding of how ISIS processes religious minority women and girls through its sex slave operation. After capturing the women and girls, Bangura said militants check them to see if they are virgins and examine the women for the features before shipping them off to be sold in sex slave markets.

“After attacking a village, IS splits women from men and executes boys and men aged 14 and over. The women and mothers are separated; girls are stripped naked, tested for virginity and examined for breast size and prettiness,” she said. “The youngest, and those considered the prettiest virgins fetch higher prices and are sent to Raqqa, the IS stronghold.”

In a media briefing earlier this month, Bangura stated that ISIS even strips girls naked and puts them on display for sale in sex slave “bazaars.”

In her interview with Middle East Eye, she further explained the pecking order in which the ISIS chain of command gets to pick which girls they get to buy, take home, rape and beat.

“There is a hierarchy: sheikhs get first choice, then emirs, then fighters. They often take three or four girls each and keep them for a month or so, until they grow tired of a girl, when she goes back to market,” Bangura said. “At slave auctions, buyers haggle fiercely, driving down prices by disparaging girls as flat-chested or unattractive.”

As virgins are valued more in ISIS sex slave markets, Bangura told the media briefing that one enslaved woman, who was bought and sold by over 20 different ISIS fighters, was forced to undergo virginity restoration surgery each time she was give to another ISIS fighter. She also mentioned how another sex slave was sold over 22 times.

As more and more radicalized foreign fighters are joining ISIS from nations all over the world, Bangura said that means more fighters are coming with the expectation of receiving a sex slave or jihadi bride, thus continuing to fuel the market.

“To understand this, we must examine the concept of jihad al-nikah, or sexual jihad — whereby women’s bodies are used as part of supporting the IS campaign,” Bangura stated. “There are tens of thousands of men who expect that they will ‘get’ women to ‘marry.’ A woman’s contribution is to marry them and cater for them in many ways, including sexually. IS men may have a wife, as well as several slaves. We heard few stories of wives who helped the slaves to escape.”

Assyrian Christian Children Forced to Watch ISIS Beheadings: ‘What Kind of World Is This for Kids to Grow Up In?’

Assyrians hold banners as they march in solidarity with the Assyrians abducted by Islamic State fighters in Syria earlier this week, in Beirut, Lebanon, February 28, 2015. Militants in northeast Syria are now estimated to have abducted at least 220 Assyrian Christians this week, a group monitoring the war reported. The banner (R) reads, “We are not afraid of whom kills the flesh, we are not afraid of who destroys the stone. Assyrians and victorious.”

Assyrian Christians fleeing ISIS from Syria who’ve made it to Beirut, Lebanon, have said that their children were forced to watch beheadings and other atrocities carried out by the Islamic militants. Over 220 Assyrians remain in captivity, with ISIS demanding millions in ransoms, but there’s no one who has the ability to pay.

“Our children saw many beheadings,” said Jack Zayya, an Assyrian Christian refugee, according to World Crunch. “We were obligated to watch public executions. What kind of world is that for kids to grow up in? They were always scared.”

Zayya said that ISIS has destroyed his livelihood back at his hometown of Al-Hasakah in Syria, and has told Christians they must pay taxes to the jihadists or be killed.

“Kidnappings were about getting ransom from rich families or individuals at first,” he continued. “With Daesh [ISIS], though, there is no negotiating. We had to pay the jizya tax or die.”

When an ISIS sheik was appointed as emir of the Al-Hasakah area, the militants moved to remove and destroy church crosses. They banned Christians from wearing crucifixes, from driving or riding in cars, and ordered women to wear burkas.

ISIS has heavily targeted Assyrian Christians in the past year, and in February kidnapped over 220 of them from 35 different village in the Hasakah province. The terror group has asked for $23 million for their release, but Syrian Catholic Archbishop Jacques Behnan Hindo said in April that no one in the region has the financial ability to pay the ransom.

“Those of Daesh usually ask what they know they can get. In this case, the goal of getting $100,000 for each hostage would be completely unattainable, and they know it,” he said.

In another attack in the city of Hassaké in April, jihadists surrounded Assyrians for two days, but Kurdish militias managed to ward them off.

One refugee from the Al-Hasakah area village, who asked to not be named, revealed that close to 90 of his relatives from his wife’s extended family are among those held hostage by ISIS.

Lebanon has seen an influx of refugees, despite officially closing its borders earlier this year. Syrians are fleeing not only ISIS, but the ongoing civil war in their country, which is fought between the government of President Bashar al Assad and various rebel groups.

Members of Beirut’s Assyrian community have been helping other Assyrian families flee to Lebanon, and anticipate that more will keep coming.

“Of course, we’re in touch with the families that are still in Al-Hasakah,” Lebanese Assyrian Church Bishop Yatron Koliana said. “When they want to come, they send us their names, we send their names to the border and they are let in. Now the Lebanese army will not let a Syrian citizen into the country unless his name is on the list.”

A problem for the arriving families, however, is that they have little in terms of possessions other than what they could bring along with them, and are legally barred from working in Lebanon. This leads to problems in paying for healthcare, education and rental costs.

“The three biggest problems they face are sickness, education and a place to live,” the bishop added.

“For the time being, most families are dependent on donations to get by. Now we have the capabilities to continue because we have food and money donations, but how long will these last? This situation can’t continue for much longer. Another six months? Difficult. Another year? Impossible.”

ISIS Shoots and Beheads 30 Ethiopian Christians on Video; Promises Further ‘Revenge’ for ‘Shed Muslim Blood’

Terror group ISIS has released a new video showing the slaughter of two groups of Ethiopian Christians in Libya, numbering 30 people in total.

ISIS warned “the nation of the cross” that more killings are to come, vowing further “revenge” for what it called “shed Muslim blood” in the region.

CNN noted that the 30-minute video, titled “Until There Came to Them Clear Evidence,” shows two groups of captives being executed in two different locations in Libya. The men in one of the groups were apparently shot to death, the others were beheaded.

ISIS-Killed-Ethiopians1-630x355A narrator says: “All praise be to Allah, the lord and cherisher of the world, and may peace and blessings be upon the prophet Muhammed. To the nation of the cross, we are back again on the sands, where the companions of the prophet, peace be upon him, have stepped on before, telling you: Muslim blood that was shed under the hands of your religion is not cheap.”

The voice continues: “In fact, their blood is the purest blood because there is a nation behind them (which) inherits revenge. And we swear to Allah: the one who disgraced you by our hands, you will not have safety, even in your dreams, until you embrace Islam.”

The latest ISIS production makes reference to the slaughter of 21 Coptic Christians in February, which was titled “A Message Signed with Blood to the Nation of the Cross.”

ISIS has captured a number of cities across Iraq and Syria in its mission to establish and Islamic Caliphate, but has also moved into other countries, such as Libya.

The Islamic militants have targeted Christians and other minorities in their attacks, and have blamed western powers for destabilizing the region and causing civilian deaths by way of airstrikes.

The U.S. and a broad coalition of allies have hit back against terror targets across Iraq and Syria, but have not sent any ground troops to fight the jihadists.

The White House condemned the latest mass slaughter, which comes a day after Afghanistan’s government blamed ISIS for a separate suicide attack in the country that killed at least 35 people.

“We express our condolences to the families of the victims and our support to the Ethiopian government and people as they grieve for their fellow citizens,” National Security Council spokesperson Bernadette Meehan said in a statement.

 Islamic Terrorists
That these terrorists killed these men solely because of their faith lays bare the terrorists’ vicious, senseless brutality.

As for the murdered Ethiopians, an official with the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahdo Church‘s Patriarchate Office told The Associated Press that the men were likely migrants traveling northward to Libya.

I believe this is just another case of the IS group killing Christians in the name of Islam. Our fellow citizens have just been killed on a faith-based violence that is totally unacceptable. This is outrageous,

Abba Kaletsidk Mulugeta said. “No religion orders the killing of other people, even people from another religion.”

Earlier in April, ISIS asked for $30 million to free up to 300 Assyrian Christians it has been holding captive since February. The Assyrians were captured after several village raids, and though a handful of them were later released, ISIS has warned the remaining captives will be killed unless they receive $100,000 per individual.

An officer within the Assyrian leadership said that it is up to the international community to help, as the Assyrians do not have such money.

“They know we cannot come up with this kind of money, so they are hoping other groups and countries will come up with the money,” the official said.
